I have an old Livejournal account and I just went there to start blogging, but it felt weird to be appending this new year's entry onto a very old blog, so I started a new one.
Welcome - haha!
I usually only make about one blog post a year - one right after the first of the year talking all about how I'm really going to start blogging this year for real.
To prove my point, here is part of my blog post from 1/1/2010: "here are my new year's resolutions: 1 - Try to update my LJ every day. Of course I will fail at this, but hopefully it will make me update more often, and that's a plus." I updated my LJ on 1/1 (twice), 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/6, 1/11, 1/24, and 4/11. Apparently I was serious at the beginning. That counts for something.
Anyway, I'm going to try a bit more this year, or try to try, that is...
Before I start listing my new year's resolutions for this year, I want to take some time to reflect on some awesome things from last year.
1- I got to ring in the new year in 2010 with Laura and James and delicious cake :)
2- I got rid of my demon gall bladder (and the surgery wasn't really that bad!)
3- I got to meet my nephew, Oliver.
4- I spent a relaxing summer with good friends hanging by the pool. I think I tutored some, too, but I can't remember!
5- I had two long-term sub jobs to help keep my afloat while I was out of work.
6- I got a full-time job thanks to the machinations of a good friend who REALLY went to bat for me.
7- I got my own classroom at said full-time job. My students and I decorated it for Christmas and Halloween, which was much fun!
8- Job has been pretty good.
9- Got ENGAGED! That pretty much tops everything else this year, if not since graduation :)
10- Had awesome and relaxing holidays with family.
Overall, I think that 2010 was one of the best years yet. I know that I've complained since losing my job at Lakota that things were off-track for me based on the plan I had when I graduated college, but I'm finally feeling back on that track and I've learned that the track is more of a guideline than a strap-yourself-in-and-never-break-course sort of thing.
Okay, so this year, I intend to...
1- Continue to lose weight. I lost 40 lbs. from Sept. 09 - Apr. 10 and gained 13 of those lbs. back over the rest of 2010. I know I can lose those 13 and then some more and I'm hoping that eating well and trying to squeeze in exercise will boost my energy.
2- Budget well. At the grocery store on New Year's Eve morning, I saw some flowers and went to check them out since my parents were coming over and I wanted the apartment to look nice. I decided it was more important to have flowers at the wedding. I'm going to try to look at purchases in that way - as taking away from the possible money for the condo and the wedding. I think that will really help me keep on track.
3- Enjoy the engagement and house hunting process. Both ideas are do damn exciting I can barely contain myself, but I'm a stress-monster and I need to focus on the awesomeness not the crazy as we embark on the craziest year ever.
I REALLY need to get back to grading, so I'm out for now. Hopefully this is the first of many posts to come this year :)
